New In | Maybelline Brow Drama

Eyebrow products are still a relatively new discovery for me. Up until about a year ago I thought I would never be able to find a match to my strawberry blonde brows and had resigned myself to having invisible eyebrows. Once I discovered the Anastasia Brow Wiz and the Benefit Gimme Brow, I became addicted to art of the eyebrow and to testing out all sorts of pencils, gels, and powders. So of course, when I had the chance to get my hands on the Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara, I knew I had to have it.

The Maybelline Brow Drama is a tinted brow gel that is intended to fill in any sparse spots, groom the hairs and keep them in place all day long. The packaging is reminiscent of Maybelline's Great Lash mascara in a black square tube with a long handled wand and sticker label. While it looks quite unremarkable on the outside, looks can be deceiving because it is all kinds of unique on the inside. The wand itself is the star of the show, a sort of long spoolie with a spherical shape towards the end. The concept is that you can deposit colour with the spoolie and then use the ball to sculpt and tame brow hairs of all lengths, even the shortest of baby hairs. The end result is natural, softly shaped brows perfect for those no makeup makeup days.

While Brow Drama definitely delivers a great day to day option for fuss free brows it is not without its issues. I think the funky little wand does indeed "sculpt" your brows and it is great at getting those pesky baby hairs, but I found the wand was just a bit too big. The size of the ball dwarfed my brows and made for a bit of a mess. Additionally I found that not much product is actually applied so it requires multiple coats to achieve even a light natural look. On the other hand, a huge bonus is that the lightest shade available (Dark Blonde - an ashy taupe) is actually a pretty good match.

So at the end of the day I don't think I would choose the Maybelline Brow Drama over my Benefit Gimme Brow. I do really like that it is an affordable option for easy natural looking eyebrows and I would recommend it to anyone who was on a drugstore budget but I have no problem spending a few extra dollars.

The Maybelline Brow Drama is not yet available in Canada but will be coming to drugstores in the near future.
