I am a huge advocate for using a primer whether it be for the face, the eyes or even the lips. So you would think I would have an eyelash primer on hand but until now I have never found one that I thought was worth the price or the effort.
Benefit Cosmetics have once again knocked it out of the park with their brand new addition to the They're Real range, the They're Real Tinted Eyelash Primer. The missing piece to the puzzle, this primer is the perfect partner in prime to the They're Real mascara.
The They're Real Tinted Primer retails for $31 CAD/ $24 USD and comes housed in an almost identical tube to the mascara apart from the frosted silver finish that replaces the classic gunmetal.
The Tinted Primer is essentially a first layer that you apply to your eyelashes before mascara. It tints the lashes a soft "mink brown" shade that is dark but looks incredibly natural while also helping to define and separate. It has a high performance gel formula that includes provitamin B5 to condition and nourish the lashes and it is also water resistant.
The gel formula is ultra lightweight and coats each and every lash easily. It builds and layers without any clumping and it leaves the lashes separated, defined, plumped and lengthened.
Alone it gives the lashes a natural feathery look and a soft tint that is perfect for day to day. It is especially perfect for girls with blonde or red hair that need the extra colour and definition a mascara provides but with a much more natural look.
The primer has a very similar brush to the original mascara, it has the same bristles and spiked ball at the tip but it is much smaller and thinner. The exclusive ExtraFlex brush also has a flexible hinge at the base of the bristles that is specially designed to move with the lashes to coat and separate every single one.
The hinge really does move with the lashes in that it feels soft and malleable but it is also sturdy enough that you never lose control.
The gel formula means that the lashes stay soft and flexible for up to 6 hours after application so you can take your time when layering mascara over top. Paired with mascara, it acts as a booster to amp up the drama, volume and length.
The separation and definition it provides is amazing for layering because it gives mascara a chance to perform at its best. It lets the mascara get in every nook and cranny and practically eliminates any possibility for clumping.
