The Summer Nail

Summer is the season of easy breezy makeup and pops of colour. When the sun comes out and I start to tone down the heavy makeup, I quite like to shift the attention to my manicure, and there is nothing better than a bright pop of neon purple or a creamy blue to help bring you into the summer spirit.

The transition from spring to summer can be a little bit murky because both seasons are the prime time to bring out the colours that we have hidden away all winter. However, I think most people associate spring with more muted, pastel shades and summer with bright, shocking neons. You can certainly wear a pastel in the middle of July - I've been known to do so! Or even a dark navy in April, it is all up to personal preference but mine is to amp up the intensity with the level of sunshine.

Revlon Parfumerie in Apricot Nectar

Orange is a summer staple in my collection. It's one of those colours that I always find myself drifting towards in the drugstore. It's just so bright and cheery. I particularly like this shade, firstly because it smells like peaches - awesome - secondly, because it is a sort of muted neon. It is a bright punchy orange but it has a subtle quality to it that makes it more wearable.

Essie Mod Square

I must admit that pink is my favourite colour and I will immediately fall in love with anything in that family. Mod Square is an in your face bright raspberry pink that I always go back to for summer. It is creamy and smooth and packs a punch. It would look amazing with a tan!

Essie Playground

So so gorgeous! Purple is one of those colours that falls in behind pink, in the sense that I am obsessed with anything that comes in that colour and this polish is no exception. Playground is a super bright barney purple with a little less blue. Yes, I'm talking about the big purple dinosaur.

Essie Bikini So Teeny

This is my go - to summer pedicure shade. It is a beautiful cornflower blue with a subtle silver shimmer running through it. There is just something about it that is so fresh and brightening on the nails, it manages to look really classy while also being fun.

Deborah Lippman Flowers in her Hair

Now I know this was released as part of a spring collection but as I said, personal preference. I actually think this is a beautiful summer shade, another muted neon hybrid. It is a bright minty green that has a bit of a punch to it. It is not completely pastel but not a full on neon.

So those are my picks for summer nail polishes. What do you like to rock in the summertime?
